Event Description

#ENRIITCyourCoffee Season 3!

Episode 1: “Open Data Resources - a driving force for innovation in the life science industry

In 2018 ELIXIR published a report on “Public data resources as a business model for SMEs” which described the existence of an ecosystem of small companies that fundamentally rely on public data resources for their operation. Based on this key report, a study was designed to investigate the economic impact of this entrepreneurial ecosystem. This research project revealed how the private sector uses open bio data resources and how we can support innovation and growth in this ecosystem.

Katharina Lauer, Industry officer at ELIXIR, will discuss in this episode:

  • How entrepreneurs and scientists can create a business using open bio data resources
  • The importance of open science for innovation in the life sciences
  • The role of research infrastructure providers and what they need to consider to help entrepreneurs to align science and business
  • Research infrastructures as participants in the wider innovation ecosystem - why we should make an effort to engage with industry

The discussion will be led by Ilaria Nardello, Research Associate at Stazione Zoologica and leader of ENRIITC WP2. It will take place on Thursday, 8 April 2021 from 15:00 - 15:30 CET.
