Description

Current Imaging sensors have amazing capabilities: Big resolutions, High Frame Rate, Hyperspectral Vision.... This is revolutionizing the industry with new applications such as 3D inspection or real time Chemical content detection. It is also changing the way we process images, a 12 Megapixel sensor produces as much as 4.8 GiB/s, or 16 times the data generated by the "interesting events" of the LHC. In this presentation we will discuss the hardware and software used on a novel Industrial Smart camera that is used today for grading 25 tons of potatoes per hour, scanning products for chemical/biological content or even counting screws. This Computer Vision System is built around an heterogeneous architecture (FPGA, GPU and CPU) that can be easily programmed thanks to its Open Source stack. Ricardo Ribalda is the Lead Firmware Engineer at Qtechnology, where he is helping to develop the next generation of Industrial Cameras. He is a strong open source advocate with contributions to the Linux Kernel, U-boot and the Yocto Project among other projects. Ricardo holds a PhD in Computer Science and Telecommunications from the UAM University of Madrid, Spain.
