Application
Applications will open on the 10th of June and you will then be able to apply, as well as submit a poster abstract. In the event of oversubscription those with the most relevant abstracts will be invited to participate.
Location of the Summer School
The summer school will take place at the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen, as well as in DMSC. The field trip will go to ESS and MAX IV in Lund, Sweden.
How to get to Copenhagen
The easiest way to Copenhagen is getting a flight to Copenhagen Airport. The airport is located 15 minutes metro ride from the centre of Copenhagen.
If you come by train, you will either arrive at Copenhagen Central Station or Nørreport Station.
VISA requirements
There might be waiting time to get a Schengen Visa. Therefore it is recommended that you register well in advance and apply for your visa. A list of nationalities that require visa for entry to Denmark can be found here. As long as you apply for a Schengen Visa it will also be valid for entering Sweden.
Invitation letters will be sent upon request only. Please send requests to symposia@ess.eu and include your name, affiliation, mailing address, and email address. Letters will be sent electronically, unless a paper copy is requested.

Transport in CPH: Rush hour between 07:00-09:00 in the morning and 15:30-17:30 in the afternoon
Tickets: Travelling in the city? You will need a 2 zone ticket. 2 zones adult ticket is 24 DKK (approx. 3 EUR)
You can purchase tickets from the machines at all the metro and train stations. They accept Danish cash and the most common credit cards.
If you are travelling by bus, you can buy tickets from the bus drivers but ONLY WITH CASH (preferably small change).

Internet access: Niels Bohr Institute is part of Copenhagen University and therefore there is Eduroam Wi-fi access in the building. The same for ESS and MAX IV in Lund, Sweden. If you have an Eduroam account you are good to go. If you do not have access to Eduroam, all sites have guest Wi-fi.

Currency and credit cards:
The currency in Denmark is Danish Kroner (DKK). One euro is equivalent to approx. 7,5 Danish kroner. The most common credit card in Copenhagen is VISA, but you should have no problem finding ATMs/cash machines that accept Mastercard and American Express as well. Bring your PIN code.

Weather: The average temperatures in September in Copenhagen are: day 15 Celsius/night 10 Celsius.
Emergency: In case of an emergency while you are in Copenhagen, always dial 112. It is a free call which will connect you to the police, fire brigade or hospital.
