How to get to Louvain-la-Neuve

HOW TO GET TO LOUVAIN-LA-NEUVE

The nearest airport is Brussels. From Brussels you can either take the train or a taxi. The cost for the train is between 11-12 € and a taxi would cost around 100 €.

Louvain-la-Neuve is easily accessible by train and its train station is located in the very centre of the town. From Brussels, you can get to Louvain-la-Neuve in about 40 minutes. All the way from the airport takes around 1 h in total.

If you are travelling to Louvain-la-Neuve by train, be sure to ask for a ticket to "Louvain-la-Neuve Université" and NOT to Louvain (or Leuven in Dutch), which is a different city, and to get on the train to Ottignies.

From any Belgian station, take the train towards Ottignies, a station situated on the Brussels-Ottignies-Namur-Luxembourg line (trains every half hour in both directions).

Get off at Ottignies station and change trains to continue to Louvain-la-Neuve-Université (about 8 min.).
Some trains go straight from Brussels to Louvain-la-Neuve but take more time.

Check timetable at this page: http://www.belgianrail.be/

From the station in Louvain-la-Neuve you either walk if you have booked Ibis hotel (15 mins walk through a sweet forest) or take a taxi. The city centre of Louvain-la-Neuve is free from cars, but the taxi takes you around the city. If your hotel is in Wavre it will not take you more than 10 by mins taxi. NB there is no train station in Wavre, so the only way is to take a taxi from Louvain-la-Neuve.
